Talent is generally considered to be an innate, personal gift possessed by relatively few people. In essence, someone with talent has an aptitude to do certain things.
Talent (in the sense of natural ability or giftedness) is not the same as skill, which is a learned process, and one which is enhanced or inhibited by an underlying talent. There has been many questions raised about the difference between talents and skills, when involving video games. One game in particular called, "Heroes of Newerth", has characters that have four spells they can learn throughout the course of the game by accumulating experience. Some argue they are skills since you need experience to unlock them, but a paradox comes into play when you realize you start with one point.
Talent is nowadays often used to describe the ability to perform, whether it be performing musically or acting. Thankfully you don't have to read all of the above as the cast of Jersey Shore is completely lacking in that aspect.
